I got my copy of this magazine (http://www.lakemaryhealthandwellness.com/ ), and there is an article on breastfeeding in here written by Dr. Ronald Lynch of Integrative Medicine of Lake Mary. The title of the article is "The Risks of Breastfeeding."

In the article, he reports on the amount of dangerous chemicals that can be found in breastmilk (such as pesticides), and blames breastfeeding for the increases in "childhood leukemias, autism, ADHD, allergies, reproductive system abnormalities such as hypospadias and undescended testes" as well as "the increase in delayed learning capabilities, lower IQs and reduced immunities against infections." He also says that "In spite of this "dirty little secret" about breastmilk, the World Health Organization and most medical authorities still prefer breast-feeding to formula feeding."

The article is not on the website (I'm not surprised here...) but this kind of ignorance and misinformation really needs to be addressed. If I can get to my scanner today, I'll scan the article and post it, so everyone can see what I'm talking about.

Well now, there is documented proof that most breastmilk DOES have chemicals in it like parabens from makeup that the mother wears and other bath products, etc, BUT, unless you are using a totally organic, top of the line formula, your formula is going to have pesticides and crap in it too, and at least breast milk has antibodies in it, so whatever crap IS in there, your kid will have a stronger immune system against it.

But of course the best solution is to just take good care of yourself when you're breastfeeding. Use stuff like earth mama angel baby products which have 0 toxins in them, eat organically, etc, and you won't have to worry about any of that in your milk.

Oh, I know about the foregin chemicals that can be found in breastmilk. That's not the issue. The issue is that this yo-yo seems to be blaming breastfeeding for every ill up to and including housemaid's knee, without any research to back it up! And some of his claims are completely against what is known to be true about breastfeeding!

He's probably in the pocket of one formula company or another. Generally when people are saying things that don't have scientific basis, they're doing so for personal gain.

From what I've heard locally since I posted this, he's trying to sell his detox services.

There you go. Get people terrified about something, then be the person with the answer. As long as you're the kind of douchebag who doesn't feel bad about manufacturing a crisis and potentially hurting people along the way, you're set.

Ugh. Are some people just so blind to the fact that this same stuff is going to be present in formula except worse? It's in the water, it's in the air, and my guess is that breast milk probably counteracts some of those negative things.
/barf on him.
